/// 05/12/12 "HEY LISTEN UP, YEAH, I JUST
GOT ONE THING TO SAY"
Just
in case some of you were wondering on how I pick
the GKL roster. I pick bands/artists based on
artistic potential. Not on how well they are
going to "sell". Profit naturally plays an
important factor in running a healthy company
but it is not the prime directive. I pick based
on how the art moves me. Bands/artists that are
pushing boundaries within their creative frame,
taking risks without thought of consequence. And
pushing their art through every avenue available
to them in order for others to be exposed to it.
For that I have built strong relationships with
everyone who has been apart of helping this
label grow. GKL is not a "flavor of the week"
operation. I run this with the notion of
bottoming out on every endeavor. Risking it all
in order to get an artist we believe in to get
the exposure they deserve. Transparent,
unpredictable, and constant. Burn Your Life
Down, Colony, Convulsions, Raindance, Run With
The Hunted. Testaments to those points.
Thank you friends.

Live at The Kave
in Bucksport, ME on August 22nd, 2011
On
March of 2012, Black Kites will have cause to
acknowledge two important milestones; the
first is that the band will have been together
for four years, and the second is that March
will mark the end of Black Kites. "Why? WHY?!"
approximately eight people will type furiously
into their keyboards. Well, our lives have
changed quite a lot since we started this band
in pretty significant ways. What came so
naturally and easy to us once does not come so
easily anymore and, as we are men unafraid to
appraise a situation for what it is, we have
decided to put to rest this part of our lives
and march bravely into the future.
I think it's important to note that we
accomplished quite a lot for a group of three
fuckin eses from New Jersey. We recorded a
healthy chunk of music, we played (perhaps
literally) a million shows, we toured all over
one quadrant of this country and almost all of
western Europe, and we met some pretty
incredible people along the way; people who
gave us more help and support than was ever
called for, and given unasked. So for those
eight people who are shaken and upset, think
fondly of our times together and make some
plans to be with us at the end.
Now, details are shaky as of now, but we plan
to play a final show in March with a healthy
host of bands that have been with us for the
long-haul. We plan to have a zine with us at
the show which will contain a discography CD
that includes the last three songs we have
written. We plan to make long-winded speeches
onstage about the importance of friendship and
cooperative effort and the everyday "fight" to
secure some small place of comfort in this
fucked up world...
But all that comes later, and we'll know more
as soon as the moments of importance are upon
us.
Until those moments...
Love and Respect,
Jay and Black Kites
(yes we're all still vegan and straight-edge,
by the way)

/// 11/02/11 | GKL + HELLFISH = FUCKING
AWESOME!
We
are very proud to announce our newly celebrated
engagement with Hellfish Family. From now on
they will be handling all of our online retail
operations. Why you ask? Well its quite simple.
We are a small collective of artists that want
to produce quality projects without sacrificing
detail. With that in mind we do not want to
sacrifice service as well. As we grow as
individuals and as a label we have to understand
our limitations. Hellfish is a well-trusted
company withing our tightly bound community. We
would not trust such responsibilities to a
second-rate operation. HF over the years has
earned to be a household name in the
punk/hardcore scene. This move for us will
increase productivity, expect to see more
releases and more art coming out from this
direction now that we have the support from such
a reliable partner. Please, go check out the new
store and the new merch that is posted for
Convulsions and Raindance!
/// 10/21//11 | YET ANOTHER RAVING REVIEW
ON THE BK/CNVLS SPLIT LP!
"The bottom
line is this split is not to be overlooked.
Both bands showcase their ability to mesh many
styles of music into one coherent sound. This
split isn’t excessive in any way; it is short
and to the point." - Words Of Evil
Blog
Fuck ya, two for
two on the bitchin' reviews on the split LP from
Black Kites and Convulsions! Big props to the
Words Of Evil Blog!
/// 11/15/11 | ANOTHER REVIEW ON THE BLACK
KITES / CONVULSIONS LP!
"The music
contained within though is something to stop
you dead, catching you flat on your feet and
unprepared. Both bands have been honing their
sound for some time now, and on this record,
come screaming through." - It Follows Blog
Glad to have yet
another awesome review on the Split LP from our
good friend Jon Husky over at It Follows Blog.
Be sure to check it out and other awesome posts
in which he has spent a great deal of time
compiling!
/// 10/01/11 | STILL ALIVE, NEW BIG THINGS
COMING UP.
Sorry for the
lack of updates, there will be some big,
awesome news coming up in the next couple
weeks on the actual label its self, Honest
Abe, Burn Your Life Down and Convulsions.
Please stay tuned. In the mean while check out
our twitter page for updates (@glorykid).

08/23/11 | AWESOME SPOTLIGHT ON
CONVULSIONS ON TOTAL WAR!
"In a new
feature, Total VVar wants to shine the
spotlight on some of the best up and
coming bands. For the first entry, who
better than Rhode Island's Convulsions?
Putting together a sound that mixes
chaotic hardcore and a slow brooding
monster, the band is a refreshing respite.
Recently Convulsions did a split with
Black Kites courtesy of Glorykid and Adagio 830..." - Total War
Blog Thanks
to the bruhs at Total War Blog for the kind
words. You can click on the image or here
